Audition Notice: Essential Theatre General Auditions

The Essential Theatre will hold non-union General Auditions for the 2012 Essential Theatre Play Festival on Saturday, March 10, from Noon till 5:30 p.m. Auditions will be held on the top floor of the building that Horizon Theatre is located in (1083 Austin Avenue N.E., Atlanta, GA 30307.) WE WILL NOT BE IN HORIZON THEATRE, simply in the same building they are in, in a room directly across from Horizon’s office, which you’ll find as soon as you get to the top of the stairs. Prepare two contrasting contemporary monologues (whichever contrast you prefer) not running more than 4 minutes in total length. The 2012 Festival will run from July 6 – August 5 at Actor’s Express, three World Premiere shows running in rotating repertory (with separate casts). All roles will be paid with a stipend. The three shows are EVELYN IN PURGATORY by Topher Payne, BAT-HAMLET by Jordan Pulliam, and THE LOCAL, a collaborative theatre project being developed by Ellen McQueen. Meisner One with Lynwoodt Jenkins

The Meisner Technique is a unique system of actor training which focuses on releasing the individual’s inner emotional life, while creating a high degree of spontaneity in performance. A series of improvisations train the actor to work moment-to- moment off of the behavior of the other actors.

Lyndwoodt Jenkins’ credits range from film actor (THE FAN), to stage actor (venues throughout the Southeast), to playwright–AT THE CROSSROADS, BLACKBERRIES and FAGGOT, which received national attention when reviewed by American Theatre Magazine in 2002. Lynwoodt trained under Founding Artistic Director Chris Coleman to instruct the Meisner Technique. Other teaching credits include: Georgia Ensemble Theatre, Spelman College, Clark-Atlanta University, South Fulton and West End Performing Arts Centers.

Fitzmaurice Voice Technique with Cynthia Barrett

This class will help develop the skills necessary to confidently use dialects, explore physical techniques to open up your body, breath and voice and exercise the flexibility and strength of your diction. We will examine the music, rhythm and mechanics of some of the world’s dialects. And put it all in practice with selections from plays.

Cynthia Barrett holds an MFA from the University of Illinois and is a Certified Associate Teacher of Fitzmaurice Voicework. She has been on the theatre voice faculties of UNC-Greensboro, UNC-Charlotte, University of Illinois and Interlochen. She has coached voice/text/dialect for the Alliance Theatre Company, and served as coach and actor for Georgia Shakespeare Festival, North Carolina Shakespeare Festival, Charlotte Rep., Illinois Rep. and Metro Theatre Company.
